About Isaac Wilkins

I've always been fascinated with two things:  Strength and figuring out how things work.

Like many young athletes, I initially pursued strength training to improve my performance in power sports, particularly wrestling and football.  Later on this turned to powerlifting and strongman events.

Once I caught the iron bug I started digging deeper into not just the how of getting stronger but the why behind it.  I devoured text books and articles while starting to write programs for friends.  This evolved into a personal training certification and starting to train others while I was still an undergrad.

After graduating with a degree in Finance I realized my passion wasn't in the corporate world but in fitness.  This led me back to school at UMaine for a graduate degree in Kinesiology, graduating in 2005.

Since then I've been fortunate to work with a wide variety of clientele.  I've helped clients from ages 7-99, from stroke recovery patients to professional and Olympic Trial athletes.  In that time I've learned that while there are many similarities between us all, everyone is different and deserves their own approach, meeting them where they're at.

Eventually this path led me to opening my own training facility in Bangor, ME where we worked with a mixed population of youth athletes and athletic adults for ten years.

A few years ago I sold that facility and moved my coaching business to a remote system, settling here in South Portland.

I realized that I enjoy working with people in person and missed that aspect of training, which has brought me here to EA.

My primary areas of focus are not just in the strength and physical development realm, but in the upstream areas of habit building, motivation, and mental toughness.  I find that if those areas are smoothed out then the physical flows, but the reverse is not always true.  If the mind and environment is right, great things can happen.

Outside of the gym I'm a bookworm, writer, and I enjoy outdoor activities like rucking, fishing, and practicing outdoor skills.  I live in South Portland with my significant other and our mouthy Dachshund, Roux.
